You should be listening to this band right now…

So, no matter how young or old you feel, you have heard of the 90s and possibly the early OUGHTS (though harder to pronounce and by far less stylish). In this case, you have listened to at least one song by the band the Smashing Pumpkins. The Smashing Pumpkins are the alternative Spice Girls of the 90s era and, unlike the Spice Girls, are mostly reunited to release new music this Fall. If you have not heard their newest release “Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1” yet, you are absolutely missing out on both 90s flashbacks and the beauty of rock that can go hard and sing you to sleep. The Smashing Pumpkins are once again able to re-spark a thirty-year romance (yes, they were formed in 1988) and achieve the delicate balance between galactic destruction and a deep-space lullaby.

Play “Travels” followed by “Marchin’ On,” and watch the video for “Solara,” you will know exactly what I mean. Do you want to listen to the record? Do you want to bring your own favorite records on your phone, on cd, or on vinyl to the library to share with other music lovers? Please join us this Saturday afternoon from 2-4pm to check out the new Smashing Pumpkins record and share your music recommendations with other music lovers on Melrose Avenue at the John C. Fremont Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library.
